I need advice and feedback on my website concept and foundation.
Here is the situation and what I need feedback from.
I already know what my site concept is, however, my concern is that it is too broad, and of course difficult to compete in search engines.
Here is my site concept and what my business is all about.
I want to create a site dedicated to financial planning. I will be giving people advice on how to manage their money. I will also be giving people advice on how to manage their health (a closely related niche). This is a topic I have the most knowledge in and have the greatest passion for. The problem of course is that this is a very broad and very competitive industry.
Now I realize that the possibilities are endless to narrow the site concept and research a niche within the financial planning industry. For example, I could narrow the site concept and dedicate the site to a certain age group (e.g. senior citizens, baby boomers, millennials etc.).
However, if I change the site concept to a niche within the financial planning industry, that would pigeonhole me to only focusing on one demographic group or topic and would defeat the purpose of what my business model is all about!
The information and content I can provide will benefit all age groups.
The other problem is that it will be a part time business initially. I can only commit about six hours a week at the beginning. I would only have time to write about two articles per week.
However, here are a few things to consider which may help get the site off to ground successfully – even though the site concept (financial planning) is broad and highly competitive.
1) I have a lot of content (potential articles) in my archives. I have about 20 or more potential articles (on my site concept financial planning) in my archives that are ready to go and ready to publish on my site.
2) Over the years I have developed some really good writing skills.
3) I also have a tremendous amount of knowledge in the health and wellness industry. I have a tremendous amount of passion for this industry as well. This of course is a related niche (lateral research) industry in which I will be adding a tremendous amount of content to my site.
4) I also have a unique selling position that other financial planning sites cannot offer.
And last point to consider on my site concept.
Even though my site concept (the financial planning) is very broad and competitive, the potential for creating content with long-tail keywords are endless. Within the financial planning /health care industry there are literally hundreds of long-tail keyword niche articles I could write and publish on my site. Hundreds of profitable (low competition, but high demand) long-tail keyword articles I could publish.
So I could rank well with hundreds of long-tail (T2 and T3) keywords and articles.
So the point here is that even though the site concept is broad, I could off-set that and get lots of organic traffic from my long-tail keyword articles I will be publishing.
Also if I get all the other factors right such as on-page SEO, off-page SEO, site structure, social media marketing and so on and so forth. Getting these factors right should off-set the fact that I will be competing in a highly competitive and broad market.
One last note: I did try using Brainstorm It! (vertical and lateral) to come up with ideas to narrow the site concept to a more competitive niche, but it really did not provide me with any new niche ideas to create.
So I would greatly appreciate it if I could get some advice, creative ideas and feedback on using this as my site concept and foundation!
Thank you in advance for any advice I can get on this discussion.
