Correct me if I'm wrong but . . .

I just noticed what I believe to be a mistake and an omission in Nori's instructions on http://sbitips.sitesell.com/breadcrumb-navigation.html

Where Nori says:

If you have any Tier 4 pages, copy the code again, paste it in just before the </ol> tag, then add the separator before the </li> tag of the Tier 3 block.

I believe the instructions for the Tier 4 code should read:
If you have any Tier 4 pages, copy the Tier 3 block of code and paste it in just before the closing </ol> tag. Then
change Tier 3 Page URL to Tier 4 Page URL
change Tier 3 Page Name to Tier 4 Page Name
change "content="3"" to "content="4"".
Finally, add the separator before the opening <li> tag of the new Tier 4 block of code.
(note, not the closing </li> tag of the Tier 3 block.)

Am I right :?:

Hi Claude.

Thank you for the call out! I am honored by your notes. You've been such an inspiration to me through these many years.

About your notes about the T4 codes. I agree that the wording could be improved. The idea is stated higher in the instructions giving the idea to make sure the sections are numbered in order:

Note 5: The itemprop="position" code inside the <meta> tag tells Google, "this item is in a hierarchy." The "content="#" (where # is 1 (home page), 2 (Tier 2 page), 3 (Tier 3 page), or 4 (Tier 4 page) ) tells Google where it is in the hierarchy.

Good catch Claude.

I think it could also be updated to include the https address for her excellent idea at the bottom of the page for storing this code in reusable blocks so as to clone them for new pages. Would this code be what you would use?

Code: Select all<div id="BreadCrumb">
<ol itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList">
<li itemprop="itemListElement" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ListItem">
<a itemprop="item" href="Home Page URL">
<span itemprop="name">Home Page Name</span></a>
<meta itemprop="position" content="1">
</li>
 ›
<li itemprop="itemListElement" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ListItem">
<a itemprop="item" href="Tier 2 Page URL">
<span itemprop="name">Tier 2 Page Name</span></a>
<meta itemprop="position" content="2">
</li>
 ›
<li itemprop="itemListElement" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ListItem">
<a itemprop="item" href="Tier 3 Page URL">
<span itemprop="name">Tier 3 Page Name</span></a>
<meta itemprop="position" content="3">
</li>
 ›
<li itemprop="itemListElement" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ListItem">
<a itemprop="item" href="Tier 4 Page URL">
<span itemprop="name">Tier 4 Page Name</span></a>
<meta itemprop="position" content="4">
</li>
</ol>
</div>

This would be a great addition to the Help Elf Helper thread. Would you want to add your note there? For your convenience:
