For the past month I've noticed that my top referrers in SBI traffic stats are all very odd looking search engines. I have been ignoring them hoping that they will go away but it it seems to be getting worse. Should I be worried? Here's my top 20!!!

1 6 0.62%
2 6 0.62%
3 6 0.62%
4 5 0.52%
5 5 0.52%
6 4 0.41%
7 4 0.41%
8 4 0.41%
9 3 0.31%
10 3 0.31%
11 3 0.31%
12 3 0.31%
13 3 0.31%
14 3 0.31%
15 3 0.31%
16 3 0.31%
17 3 0.31%
18 3 0.31%
19 3 0.31%
20 3 0.31%

Thanks for any advice, Nicole.

This is referrer spam, and although it's confusing and annoying, there is no problem with it. Just ignore it. I had all referrers from Russian ip's blocked by support, so that's something you could do. Search for 'referrer spam' in the forum here.

Because these stats are not public, I'm pretty sure they don't have any effect on how the search engines view your site.

Hi Nicole
Ditto for my referrals. Been like that for quite a while but I'm sure there was a forum that said to just ignore them.

Glad I'm not the only one. Analytics doesn't seem to register these odd referrals but SBI does.

I'm getting updated to the latest in order to prepare to put C2 into action and to put up some affiliates and have run into a few things that have me a bit confused.

I too have been getting a lot of .zrus hits on my referrers list in my Traffic Stats (and sure enough, it's a porn site). It's giving me a brutal bounce rate on Google Analytics but ...

My question is this. I've been waiting for my traffic #'s to get to the daily avg. 80+ range before taking the step to do C2 and begin to put in some affiliates ... but ... is the REAL traffic # much lower considering all these spam referrers ??

In Google analytics, these scummers don't show up, and it does show a good number of my pages have been linked to by people on Trip Advisor.

It feels like a little snow ball is finally starting to roll with my site so I'm wondering where, or how, all this stuff plays in to the picture ... or if I am looking or thinking about this stuff correctly.

Thanks ... Lou

Referrer spam is not real traffic. SBI! stats show lots of hits from bots and spiders that don't show on Google Analytics, so yes, it's not that accurate for real human visitors.

Thanks Jacki,

so my 80+ count isn't 'real' ... great - just great .. big balloon popper that one is! ... what could you recommend to check out and see what would give me a more real visitor count ?

..and Thank you as usual for helping me out ... Lou

There are several; Google Analytics and StatCounter are the two that I use. There's no real need for them, if you just adjust down a bit :D .
