I would like to put a flash movie in about thirty pages. The flash movie stage size is 4.5 * 3.5 cm. Each page will have one at one corner. I am afraid to move into other formats like MP4 because of two reasons. First, the quality will diminish or the file may compress, secondly, free file transferring programs are not really free and they are a bit complicated too. For me cropping the stage and putting it in the web page is simple.

I heard computers with a flash application can only run the flash movies. if that case all my visitors cant watch the movies! Any suggestions?

Flash is well past it's use by date. I recommend NOT using that format. No phones will be able to see flash movies (I think!), and only computers that enable flash can too, and the number of those is getting less every day. There are a number of formats that allow phones as well as laptops to view videos... some research would be required to find out what is the best to use to have the most viewers able to watch. MP4 is probably the format that will give you the most viewers able to watch, if you decide to use only one. Some people use multiple video types to cater to everyone.

Cheers, AJ

I second AJ's comments. I removed Flash from my computer over a year ago. (I use the mobile versions of the Action Guide to view them on my Mac.)

I understand Adobe will be ceasing support for Flash in 2020, so it's best not to put any work into using it. HTML 5 allows for a lot of the features of Flash. Sorry, can't give any advice on the best video format to use, I've had no experience in that department.

Hi Madathil

TJ and Eric have pretty much summed this up so there is nothing to add here.

Except - you are talking about some pretty small files here. Maybe gif may be worth considering? That small I am not sure there would be anything wrong with an MP4. I suggest you try it because flash is not an option.

Also - and I know this wasn't part of your post but I strongly discourage you from the ads that come up when a visitor goes to your homepage. Especially because, when I close them, it pops up as another page in the browser.

Hoe this helps.

Thank you Eric, TJ and Paul, I understand from your wordings no to use Flash movies probably MP4 is the best for a maximum number of watching. If you have any suggestions for MP4 transfer please comment me again. If I am wrong please correct me.

Paul, I have not touched my website since 6 years. But you can expect some rapid changes very soon. I have parked a new name for my website: [Domain Private]

Thank you all

One more question please !. I have already created a flash based tutorial for sale. My intention is to dispose some unique ideas free of charge and then sell the rest.Which is the best tutorial format I should change into?. Can I do it in a single shot - I mean changing the flash-based tutorials to another internet friendly platform.?

Thank you and Hopefully, some of you will soon answer my question.

Hi Madathil

Handbrake is a free program that will convert your flash files to MP4. It's free, is pretty good and probably is the best place to start for you as it wiill enable you to control how your final file will look. We actually have an article here; that will help you understand conversion and also using Handbrake a little.

I think your supplementary question is about where to put the video so it displays but if I am mistaken, please let me know. There are plenty of hosts including YouTube, Vimeo and JW Player - all with free plans so these would be a good place to start.

Hope this helps

Hi Madathil

Sorry for the delay - I missed this. You may have already solved the issue. Really it's hard to be specific without seeing the converted file so if you can put it onto a test page and show us that may help. I haven't used flash converter so I am not familiar with that. It will just be a matter if testing. Frustrating, I know! :(

One of the problems that may have caused the poor quality conversion is the bitrate setting. If you have converted it too low it will definitely degrade the quality. In the article at I cover bitrate although it is only in the context of file size. However, too low, compared to the original will degrade the result.

Don't know the bitrate of the individual? Try Media Info:

Hope this helps

Dear Paul and other fellows,

I have few issues here..

I have been trying many free video mp4 converters and I am not happy at all.
Mine is an interactive video made in Flash 8. It has got backward and forward buttons, main menu button and an exit button to get out of Flash. I am thinking to buy a video convertor not so sophisticated but should accomplish my requirments. Before buy I want to test it on trial.

Secondly in my flash SWF file all buttons are working but 'Exit'. I googled two days but not lucky. I desperately need some help on these two issues. Many thanks.

I desperately need your help.

My website pages are made in HTML editor. I have created few (Flash 8) animation files. I would like to publish 25 animations in my website free of charge ( 25 keyboard shortcut ideas.) - a kind of pre-sale. Then allow my visitors to download about 75 keyboard shortcut ideas for a small price. These are 3-4 SWF files. Now I understand that flash files are no more supported by browsers and It is better to convert them into MP4. But MP4 does not give me the same quality and the video misses many important parts while transferred.

My question: Is there any programs I can simplly cut my animations and transfer into, so that my visitors can easly download them ?.Or what shall I do without sweating much. I took too much pain to make 100 animations. These 100 animations are 100 unique ideas. Please help me. I am really helpless. I have not touched my website since six years. I was busy in the creation of unique ideas and animations in the middle of family responsibilities and work. I was dreaming a big revolution. But really shocked to know the flash files are no more a good idea to publish.

Hi Madathil,

Respectfully, I think your answer is already in this thread. Either use them as they are and expect your mobile visitors (up around 70% of all visitors for some sites) can't view them, or redo them in the proper format as time allows.

I had to split your above post off an older topic in another thread, move it here and merge with this thread as both your posts were the same thing. Essentially duplicate posts by the same poster are not permitted as they fragment conversations.

Feel free to bump this thread every week or so just to see if anyone has something else to add.

All my best,

Hi Madathil,

Following from Deb's update as well as the previous answers, I don't have an answer in Flash. So - if you are determined to go down that path then I can only suggest some specialist groups on the web or, more personally, SiteSell Pros;

Alternatively, to provide a way forward, would you mind uploading 2 or 3 files to a test page on your site and provide the link? I want to see what you are actually doing with them. I MAY have an alternative - but its not flash and will depend on several things. :)

Dear Debs and Paul,

Thank you for listening me

Let me explain everything in detail.

I have 5 swf flash files. A file is about 100 KB. Each file contains 20 animations on average basis. All together 100 animations.

My Tutorial platform: Page size : X * Y = 850 * 450 pixels. Each page is a lesson. So for 100 animations 100 lessons. There are back, forward, exit, main menu buttons in all pages.

At left corner of each page, I have my animations. Animation stage size: 225 * 175. As these animations are movie clips it will keep on playing continously. The rest of the area is movie clip explanation. I mean text. There is an audio button for those people want to listen or they can read the text to understand the clip.

The animation is very simple and drawn in differnt patterns of black color and the text is in black and white.

Now, please help me If I have to redraw ( undersstanding flash is no more a good idea to keep) the animations to another platform which is the simple easy way to do that ?. Once did the visitors should be able to download or watch them in their gadgets without any hassels. My tutorial has a simple look without much make up. Please please please help me.

Madathil, Paul asked you to set up one on a page so he can see it there. Only then can he give further advice.

If he can't help you, no one can, he is the go to person for Audio/Video here on the forums and with SiteSell Pros, so please listen to his request.

All my best,
