Breadcrumbs on a C2 page are for some reason far more pernickety. I've used one on one of my sites very successfully, and believe it's contributed greatly to traffic.

However an exact copy of the same html gives the link back to the home page as a no such url.

This is what I use. Does anyone have any suggestions?

<span itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href=“[Domain Private]/" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop=“title”>Bernard Preston home page</span></a>»</span><span itemprop="child"itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb"><a href="Tier 2 URL"itemprop="url"><span itemprop=“title">Tier 2 page name</span></a> </span>» C2 page name
<BR><BR><BR>

The Tier 2 page link works fine, but not the home page. [Domain Private]

Many thanks,

Barrie

Barrie...

I always thought breadcrumbs were the links at the bottom of all pages...

Home Page > Making Dog Food > Dog Liver Treats Back to Top

Am I missing something? Sorry I wasn't able to answer your question..

Hi Barrie,

I see that you have used some curly quotes in your code. Curly quotes will break code. :-)

You have...
Code: Select all<span itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href=“[Domain Private]/" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop=“title”>Bernard Preston home page</span></a>»</span><span itemprop="child"itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb"><a href="Tier 2 URL"itemprop="url"><span itemprop=“title">Tier 2 page name</span></a> </span>» C2 page name
<BR><BR><BR>

It's best to use a plain text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit (which rich formatting turned off) to write your code to prevent the curly quotes...

Try this...

Code: Select all<span itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="[Domain Private]/" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">Bernard Preston home page</span></a>»</span><span itemprop="child" itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb"><a href="Tier 2 URL" itemprop="url"><span itemprop="title">Tier 2 page name</span></a> </span>» C2 page name
<BR><BR><BR>

I hope that helps,
Laura

Hi Bernie.

I'm so glad Laura caught that and I hope that her notes fix your problem.

There's new info in the Breadcrumbs TNT HQ article that you might want to know about. (Unless it does not apply to C2?)

http://sbitips.sitesell.com/breadcrumb-navigation.html

I'm loving using the reusable blocks and cloning them for each new page. It's almost like having a BreadcrumbTool.

'Hoping to help,

Mary

Hello Scott.

Duh.

Yes, I saw that and yes you are right. The thing is that there are many ways to code those breadcrumbs. The TNT article mentions the current best practice and how to clone reusable blocks.

http://sbitips.sitesell.com/breadcrumb-navigation.html

There is a wish list for SiteSell to make breadcrumbs automatic, especially for C2 (commenting pages). We can add our support for automatic breadcrumbs here:

You are very clever, Laurer! Many, many thanks.

Yes, at the bottom of the page, Scott.

Uncle Ken asked me recently to give three reasons how SBI enabled me to get into Alexa < 500,000. One of my three was that folk like you give so freely of your expertise. So, thank you for a third time!

I wonder how many folk look at other SBI sites; I just checked yours out Laura; very nice, neat and concise.

One little error: Related pages

Signs of Ovulation | Menstrual Cycle Lenght | Irregular Menstrual Cycle | Follicular Phase | Ovarian Follicle | What is Ovulation?

We all have them, and certainly on my site too, but I especially try to avoid in a link.

One little tidbit; I'm a chiropractor of some 36 years; one of the strangest and unexplained phenomena is that every year we have a couple of patients at least who after ten years of trying to fall pregnant, come to a chiropractor for an entirely unrelated issue, and bingo, within months... saw one this week with a bouncing boy of a few weeks. Hi Bernie,

Thanks for the heads up on the typo. Fixed it. :-)

It's probably been like that for at least a year and I never noticed it. :oops:

Thanks also for the article.
