Scott, just wanted to tell you I love the pic! Really sweet little doggy.
And, since I'm writing to you, I agree with what you said....
All the best to you, your doggy, and your new site!

Hi Scott and Nimble!

Yes, when I ran the https tester I got the message there was nothing for me to do. I thought there must be something wrong because it sounded like there would be a LOT to do. So I contacted support to be sure and they verified that I don't have to do anything.... for now anyway. Maybe after the Conversion there will be...

Things always seem to work out....
All the best!

Good... Gooood!

I hope the same results go my way also  .

I think so due to the fact that I'm only on Day 7 without any bells and whistles. My Scroll to Top, Search Bar & Facebook Like Button are the only "outside of SBI" elements I've added. The codes have HTTPS in 'em so I think I'm good to go. I'll use the tester when I have a little more time. I'm still a little unclear about the the incoming links though...

Good luck and thanks for your warm wishes...

Scott & Nimble.

Sorry if this is already in here... but with 17 pages of posts, I may have missed it :)

I use a lot of affiliate links on my site, many of which are in raw html blocks (code from Commission Junction) - am I going to have to manually go in and convert every single one of those affiliate links to https?

Or will SBI's https conversion tool fix those links for me?

Hi Sheralyn,

Not sure what SBI will do here, yet if you have to fix these codes; you can create reusable blocks and simply pull them into the correct place as you go.

Not a happy job now; but easy to change later, especially if you convert to using the link tool.

Small note, yet hopeful!

Yeah, I wish reuseable blocks were the answer - but most of my affiliate links are deep links and are only used on 1 or 2 pages. Looks like I'm in for quite the job if there isn't an automated solution.

Help Elf, if you're seeing this... when I converted my Wordpress sites to HTTPS, I ran a couple of plug-ins to convert everything that wasn't secure to https and was able to get the job done in a few clicks... any chance SBI will do something similar?

SiteSell will change everything internal and there are some they will do that are external.

The problem with a blanket approach to outgoing links is ... will they work if changed from http to https? You have to check them to see. Ask CJ what they are doing about the need to be https compliant and see if that helps. Some merchants/aggregators are doing it so you don't have to change your links, but they say they are https compliant (which may mean something to the more technically-minded).

It's worth checking everything. I checked a site in my footer bar, which was where I got the code for my DCMA banner, and although the domain is still there, it's not active but parked on GoDaddy. So off it goes. The banner still works!

Hi Stephen,

As Help Elf has said in this forum thread Google did not specify October 1st as a start date for the https thing. They originally said "October" but have recently been more specific. HE says...

...Google throws down the gauntlet, which is scheduled for the week of October 17 (which Google's own documentation reports).

- here's the link to that thread.

This is not an area of expertise for me but as I understand it, you will not get any error message such as you do when there's a broken link. What happens is that the site will show up in the URL as non-secure. So whereas you see this for the forums which are secure...

Screen Shot 2017-10-02 at 09.22.22.png (11.75 KiB) Viewed 479 times

you'll see this instead...

Screen Shot 2017-10-02 at 09.24.41.png (10.81 KiB) Viewed 479 times

and when you click on the little i there, you get this message...

At least, that is what is happening at the moment.

How many people will even notice that little 'i' in the URL bar? And of those, how many will click it? My guess is very few, if any.

Hope that helps dispel the anxiety a little...

PS It would be helpful to keep all the questions about https in one thread (the one I've linked to above). Otherwise there may be questions which have already been answered, and answers that will help others but that are not being found.

Hi Stephen,

Full changes are listed by Google here. It's a short post & easy to read.

And here's Google's gif example showing you what will happen when someone types data into a text box on your http site.

In Chrome Incognito, the words Not Secure will be in the URL bar all the time, not just when someone types onto your page.

I am looking for some clarification and help about HTTPS and Infinit as the whole thing is a complete mystery to me :)

I have an Infinit subdomain wordpress blog =
I can see that I can turn on a free wordpress SSL certificate from Bluehost -

After I have done this do I need to edit the CNAME Provider name on Infinit? Or will magic just happen?

Because of the (old?) limits to the number of files you could have in Special File Manager, I set up a subdomain pointing to a Bluehost directory with all the pdfs in it. The user clicks on a link on my site and sees-

It isn't a wordpress blog or a site of any description. Just a folder with pdf documents in it. Does anyone have any ideas how to HTTPS it - or if I need to bother at all?

Many thanks for any (polite!) suggestions.
best wishes, Julie.
