Here is my HTTPS feedback .
I switched the Germany site to HTTPS way back in October, which was certainly the wrongest moment, as Christmas is the biggest time for this site. At first, the site lost some traffic, but it was expected, and not too bad. Then there was a drop mid December, and another one in January.
I can't imagine that the traffic loss, (which is now about 60%) is because of the switch. All pages are listed in the search engines.
Is anything known that Google made major changes in the last three months?
Anyway, I waited long to switch the second site (Outback site). On Saturday night, I said now or never, and clicked the switch. There were no problems again. Within a few hours I saw the green padlock, and all tests were good.
On Sunday morning, to my biggest shock, all Adsense ads were gone. I clicked around the site for hours, but saw no ads. Then I asked a few SBI friends to check for me. This was the time, when some ads slowly came back.
I checked my Adsense account, and finally found a message that the Adsense crawler couldn't access my site due to the robots.txt file. There was only one URL listed, however, at that time still 50% of the site didn't show any Adsense ads.
I waited, and today finally all ads are back.
Here is what I read in the Adsense Help about crawler errors:
If your site has redirects, there's a risk that our crawler could have issues following through them. For example, if there are many redirects, and intermediate redirects fail, or if important parameters such as cookies get dropped during redirection, it could decrease the quality of crawling. Consider minimizing the use of redirects on pages with ad code, and ensuring redirects are implemented properly.
So my question is, as long as the site is redirected from the http to the https version, can this happen again?
Anyone else had problems with Adsense ads after the switch?
