Hi folks,

I got this email and not sure if it's legit. It ends with a button-link to "fix" it.

The email reads:

Google Search Console

New Index coverage issue detected for site [Domain Private]

To owner of [Domain Private],

Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 1 new Index coverage related issue. This means that Index coverage may be negatively affected in Google Search results. We encourage you to fix this issue.

New issue found:

Submitted URL has crawl issue

Fix Index coverage issues

Thanks! <3

Check the link URL in a browser which shows the destination when hovering over it, like Chrome or Firefox. Or, log in to your Search Console dashboard and check if you got the same message delivered there as well -- which you would if it's legit.

Kind regards,

Only people who converted to https are seeing this, because the https version is a new site. Google spiders it and reports to you that it can't reach the cgi-bin folder. Which it's not supposed to have access to.

So there's nothing to do.

The good news is that when you get that email, it means that Google has at least spidered your pages and is in the process of indexing the pages.

It means they couldn't find the page at the time. If the page is "real" and showing live on your site, but was "not there" when they checked, that's a soft 404.

Check that it is "fixed" in your account and see if that takes care of it. (Make sure the page is live and real first though).
