Blog It! enables evergreen "Theme-Based Content Sites" to use RSS to distribute new pages via a technique we call "site-blogging!" This forum is for exchanging Blog It! ideas and tips. (If you are interested in full-blogging (ex., adding a full WordPress blog to your site), THE way to go is through Infin It!. See that forum.)

One of the first things you need to check if you are having problems getting your feed into MyMSN, Yahoo, Google or elsewhere is that it validates.

Since SBI creates the feed for you, you would think it would validate and it will, providing you haven't used invalid characters in either the title box or the description box at the top of your site pages.

The most common invalid character is the & but there are others; so check your feed ... here is how to do it:

Put the url of your feed into your browser by either clicking the orange RSS button on your pages (or by clicking the button, then clicking the url on the page that pops up; or by copy/paste); you should see your nice RSS file text, it might look something like this:

If you don't see that; or you want to be sure, you should validate your RSS file. I use Mozilla Firefox and if a feed I click is not valid, I get a warning instead of the printout of the RSS file ... it would look like this:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: [Domain Private]
Line Number 24, Column 39: <title>Sep 27, Daily Inspiration & Spiritual Guidance Messages </title>

In this particular case, the error is because & was used in the title. Taking out the & and replacing with

and

would fix the error.
